Book Review: Seven Days — Alex Lake

I read Seven Days in just a couple of sittings. I went to sleep with just a few chapters left, and finished it immediately upon waking up.

Seven Days is not a whodunnit. Instead, the book follows the story of what happened to both Maggie and her family, flicking back and forth between the present day, and a timeline over the previous twelve years since her kidnap.

I found this perfectly easy to keep track of, it felt almost natural.

Each ‘chapter’ was only a page or so long, and each time period its own section. This meant there was a lot of white space within the book. It kept the pace high, but it felt like there was room to put in some real depth.

The detective didn’t add much, and the brother’s decline didn’t feel as devastating as it should have.

It’s a page turner of a book. Exciting but grpahic, I raced through to find out the ending.
